Downloading WAV from Suno

Where WAV lives now

It is inside the download window, not in a menu of its own. Open your library, click the three dots at the end of the song row, and choose Download. The window that opens lists five things: M4A, MP3, WAV, MP4 video and Stems.

Those five are toggles, not radio buttons, and MP3 arrives switched on. That is the single most common way people end up with a file they did not ask for. If you want WAV and only WAV, switch MP3 off before you confirm.

What lossless actually gets you

A WAV is the audio with nothing thrown away. MP3 and M4A both discard detail that most listeners cannot hear on most equipment, and both do it well enough that in a phone speaker or a pair of earbuds the two are indistinguishable.

Where the difference stops being theoretical is when the file gets processed again:

• Into a DAW. Compression artefacts get amplified by everything you do next
• To a mastering service. Mastering a lossy file means mastering the artefacts along with the music
• To a distributor. Most want lossless, and several reject compressed uploads outright
• Into stems work or a remix. Same reason as the DAW

If the track is going onto a playlist, into a video, or to a friend, the smaller file is doing the same job at a tenth of the size.

What it costs you

One download. Unlocking a song spends one of the allowance on your plan no matter which format you take, so the cap counts songs rather than megabytes. Whether arming a second format in the same window costs a second download is not something Suno documents anywhere, and it is not a good thing to find out by experiment. The safe habit is to decide on one format, tick that one, and check the others are off.

A rule that holds up

Ask what happens to the file after it lands. If the answer is "it gets opened in something", take WAV. If the answer is "it gets played", take the small one. Twenty downloads a month is not enough to hedge.
